After Weight Loss
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Beverly Hills and Greater Los Angeles
After weight loss body contouring is a comprehensive approach to improve the physical appearance of individuals who have undergone significant weight loss. Whether through diet and exercise, weight loss medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide, or through bariatric surgery like the gastric sleeve, weight loss is a huge achievement to be proud of. However, when the human body experiences rapid or significant shifts in weight, the stretched skin does not have ample time to shrink down to the new body proportions. There are multiple surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures that tighten the skin and contour the body after weight loss, allowing patients to fully appreciate their new figure.
Located in Beverly Hills, Dr. Michael Omidi is a double-board-certified plastic surgeon who has over 15 years of surgical experience. With extensive training in surgery of the breast and body, he is uniquely equipped to perform complete body contouring procedures for weight loss patients. He meets with each individual for a private consultation to discuss their specific cosmetic desires.

After Weight Loss Treatments
Bariatric surgery and medical weight loss assistance have helped many patients achieve and maintain a healthier weight. They often do a lot of work to get to and preserve their new body but are left with large amounts of excess skin and loose tissue that impact their daily lives. Body contouring procedures and treatments offer comprehensive, permanent restructuring to help these patients finally achieve their dream physique. (1)
Personal Consultation with Dr. Omidi
Dr. Omidi will meet with you for a private consultation to discuss your circumstances and candidacy. He will perform a physical examination of your treatment area(s) before explaining thoroughly what each procedure entails. He then asks about your medical history and weight loss journey to best assess your situation. If he deems you a good candidate, he will create a customized procedure plan that addresses your cosmetic concerns clearly and concisely. Finally, a member of his staff will assist you in scheduling your surgery.
After Weight Loss Procedures
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Dr. Omidi performs tummy tucks after massive weight loss for his patients. Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and tissue from the abdomen to flatten its surface and tighten a patient’s abdominal muscles. To accommodate massive weight loss patients, he can extend the traditional hip-to-hip incision further around toward the back. Commonly called an extended tummy tuck, this procedure utilizes an incision along the bikini line to undermine the tissue, repair the abdominal muscles, and tighten the remaining skin. Dr. Omidi often performs this surgery in tandem with other body contouring, as in the mommy makeover, to improve a patient’s results.
Breast Lift
After breastfeeding or weight loss, women often experience noticeable breast ptosis (sagging) and a loss of upper pole volume. During a breast lift, Dr. Omidi removes stretched skin from underneath the nipple-areola complex to create a more lifted breast contour. This procedure requires incisions around the nipple, down the middle of the lower pole, along the crease, or a combination of these to safely restructure the breast. He may combine this surgery with a breast augmentation or reduction to achieve a patient’s cosmetic desires.
Arm Lift
Also called brachioplasty, an arm lift surgically removes loose and sagging skin from the upper arms to improve their overall shape. Significant weight loss often leads to “bat wings,” or a collection of tissue and skin just underneath the armpit area that can cause irritation and self-consciousness. For a traditional arm lift, Dr. Omidi makes an incision from the armpit to the elbow, removes the excess skin, and recontours the upper arm for a more youthful-looking and toned appearance. During a mini arm lift, he places a horizontal incision in the armpit to correct minor skin sagging. Some weight loss patients require an extended arm lift, wherein the incision runs along the back of the arm instead of the underside.
Thigh Lift
Some patients hold a majority of their weight along their hips and thighs. A thigh lift, or thighplasty, removes skin and fat to reshape the upper legs. It addresses the inner and sometimes outer thighs, tightening the contour and adding structure back to this area. Like other body contouring procedures, Dr. Omidi often combines this surgery with liposuction to slim the thigh and make it easier to redrape and tighten the skin.
Neck Lift
For patients with excess fat in their neck area, weight loss can lead to stretching and sagging of the skin underneath the chin. This can also be a sign of aging or lack of collagen production. A neck lift, much like a facelift, addresses the neck by removing excess skin and tightening internal muscles. The platysma muscle runs all the way across the neck and starts to loosen and sag with age. Dr. Omidi places incisions near each ear and sometimes under the chin to tighten this muscle, shift drooping fat pads, and redrape the skin in a tighter fashion.
BodyTite
Though plastic surgery is often the most successful way to tighten loose skin using proper removal, there are a few minimally invasive treatments that work as well. BodyTite uses radiofrequency energy to liquefy stubborn fat cells through small incisions. The probes target subcutaneous tissue and destroy it without the need for extensive surgery. Dr. Omidi then extracts the affected fat with suction. Radiofrequency waves also heat the skin surrounding the fat, stimulating new collagen production to tighten the treatment area.
Renuvion
With a combination of radiofrequency and helium plasma, Renuvion tightens the skin using thermal damage and instant cooling. This particular minimally invasive treatment is a great addition to liposuction and other body contouring procedures as it utilizes similar incisions. Dr. Omidi inserts the Renuvion probe just beneath the skin and shifts it to target sagging areas with energy. The treatment’s unique mechanism applies heat to the tissue along with almost immediate cooling to firm the skin and smooth its texture.
How Can I Benefit from After Weight Loss Procedures?
Multiple studies have shown a measurable increase in body confidence and psychological health felt by massive weight loss patients after body contouring procedures. (2)
Removing excess skin and tissue can:
- Accentuate new body shape

- Enhance overall firmness
- Reduce skin irritation
- Encourage a healthier lifestyle
- Improve weight loss results
- Make clothing more comfortable
- Increase self-esteem
Ideal Candidates
To qualify for body contouring procedures and treatments, patients may have recently lost significant weight or given birth. They have loose skin around their arms, legs, neck, and abdomen that they wish to remove and tighten to restore their body shape. Patients should be in good overall health and at a stable and maintainable weight. They are free of serious medical conditions that may increase the risk of surgery or interfere with healing times. If they are smokers, ideal candidates are willing to quit for the appropriate amount of time to reduce the risk of complications. It is also imperative that they have reasonable and optimistic expectations before surgery.
Preparation
Before surgery, patients should prepare the following:
- A comfortable recovery space in their home
- Request time off of work to relax after treatment
- Pick up new prescriptions before the surgery date
- Make simple and nutritious recovery meals
- Avoid tobacco and nicotine products
- Avoid alcohol consumption
- Refrain from taking NSAIDs (eg. aspirin, ibuprofen)
- Refrain from herbal supplements (eg. vitamin E, ginger)
Recovery & Results
Each body contouring procedure requires specific recovery steps and downtime to properly heal. Dr. Omidi provides instructions made just for you to support recovery and encourage healthy habits during this process. If you receive multiple procedures together during one surgery, your recovery will look much different from someone who underwent minimally invasive skin tightening. Inquire about your recovery process during your private consultation with Dr. Omidi for more detailed information.
The results of body contouring are immediately apparent after surgery. The skin is tighter and smoother around the treatment area. As the swelling dissipates, results improve over time as you heal and new collagen and elastin forms. Fat and skin removal is permanent, although it is important to wear sun protection and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Your skin naturally stretches and loses elasticity with age, but fat cells do not reappear after extraction. A nutritious diet and exercise routine can help you enhance and support your new physique.

FAQ
How much weight can I lose by receiving a tummy tuck or liposuction?
Body contouring procedures are not intended as weight loss solutions. Though the removal of tissue may affect your overall weight, they aim to improve body contour and shape.
Can body contouring procedures be combined to improve my results?
Absolutely! Surgeons often perform multiple surgeries, typically focused on one area of the body, to enhance a patient’s final results. For example, a mommy makeover is a combination procedure that often includes a tummy tuck, breast lift/augmentation, and liposuction.
When can I return to work after body contouring surgery?
The return to work timeline varies based on the nature of your job and the extent of the procedures performed. For relatively sedentary occupations, most individuals can resume work duties within two to three weeks after surgery. Jobs that require physical labor may necessitate additional downtime.
What is the potential scarring associated with after weight loss body contouring?
After weight loss body contouring procedures, specifically lifting procedures, involve incisions, which result in some degree of scarring. However, surgeons strategically place these incisions in discreet locations and utilize advanced surgical techniques to minimize visible scarring. As your body heals, scars typically fade significantly and become less noticeable over time.
